Project description
The project aims to provide both theoretical and experimental analysis of markets with incomplete information, such as real estate, insurance, and financial markets, where both privately informed and uninformed traders coexist. In these markets, decision-makers must form beliefs not only based on the information they receive but also by observing the choices of others. If these decision-makers are naive or biased, they may struggle to correctly interpret the signals conveyed by others' actions. The project will focus on understanding how such biases impact market outcomes, including allocations, prices, and overall welfare.
The PhD candidate will be encouraged to pursue independent research related to this topic. We welcome applicants with an interest in either theoretical work or experimental studies.
Research environment
The School of Economics at the University of Queensland is known for having a strong research environment. UQ received a rating of 5/5 for economic theory in the 2018 Excellence in Research Australia (ERA) assessment, and the university has demonstrated its support for experimental economics by establishing the Centre for Unified Behavioural and Economic Sciences (CUBES), whose laboratory will be used in this project.
