Project description
Individuals with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and other related identities and experiences (LGBTQIA+) experience significant barriers to accessing safe and affirming primary care. This project aims to improve the provision of primary care through developing a LGBTQIA+ affirming model of care and practitioner toolkit.
This PhD project will be aligned with one or more phases of a funded project that aims to co-design, implement and evaluate an LGBTQIA+ affirming model of care and provider network. This project will incorporate co-design principles with consumers and clinical stakeholders to develop the model of care and implementation toolkit and using qualitative and quantitative methodologies will evaluate the process.
The successful candidate will work alongside a team of clinicians and researchers from physiotherapy, pharmacy, podiatry, medical imaging, psychology and sociology, as well as a large Primary Health Network and allied health organisation.
Overall, the project will improve provision of LGBTQIA+ affirming primary care.
Research environment
The successful applicant will join a team of LGBTQIA+ researchers and allies who are leaders in LGBTQIA+ health, health workforce and health systems research. While the successful applicant will be based at The University of Queensland in Brisbane, our team is located across Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Townsville. We have established supervisory and mentoring processes to support the successful applicant throughout their candidature. The successful applicant will also establish links with our partner organisations and consumer investigators. This research environment is an exciting opportunity for those seeking to pursue a career in LGBTQIA+ health, health workforce or systems change.
