Project description
You will leverage recent advances in bio-mimicking materials to create innovative nanostructures with customisable roughness. Moreover, the project seeks to establish new design principles for engineering materials that can regulate stem cell behaviour, while also providing advanced materials for future tissue engineering applications
Research environment
You will be based at the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN), UQ. The AIBN was established in 2003 as Australia's first fully integrated institute focusing on multidisciplinary research at the interface of bioengineering and nanotechnology. The AIBN has a range of state-of-the-art equipment and facilities for conducting the proposed research of synthesis and characterization of the polymers and studying their biological response. The AIBN also houses the Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis (CMM) and the Queensland node of the Australian Nanofabrication Facility (ANFF-Q), providing outstanding facilities in microfabrication and nanoscale characterisation. Adjacent to the AIBN is the Centre for Advanced Imaging (CAI), bringing together a critical mass of “state-of-the-art” research imaging instruments.
