Project description

Gynaecological cancers are the third most common cancer type diagnosed in Australian women. Each year over 6,700 Australian women and girls are diagnosed with gynaecological cancer and almost a third will not survive their disease.

We have a full-time PhD opportunity available at QCGC Research focusing on discovering and validating biomarkers that improve outcomes for women with gynaecological cancer. This project will involve working with clinical samples, conducting laboratory work, and analysing data.

The successful applicant will work as part of the QCGC Research team at UQCCR, as well as collaborate with researchers, clinicians, consumers, and stakeholders from other organisations, including hospitals, pathology providers and the community.

Research environment

UQ ranks in the top 50 as measured by the Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities. The University also ranks 50 in the QS World University Rankings, 36 in the US News Best Global Universities Rankings, 53 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and 47 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities.

This project is situated at the Queensland Centre for Gynaecological Cancer (QCGC) Research within the UQ Centre for Clinical Research (UQCCR). QCGC Research aims to reduce the current and future burden of gynaecological cancer and to develop kinder, less invasive, and more effective diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. UQCCR is located at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital campus in Herston.
