Project description
The rise of the digital economy has led to an unprecedented scale of data collection, storage and processing, creating new privacy risks for individuals. Our project will provide an economic analysis of the incentives and institutions necessary to ensure data is sufficiently protected while also providing adequate levels of privacy to individuals. It will do this by exploring the optimal design of privacy laws, data breach notification laws, and the relationship between promoting competition and encouraging data protection investment. The outcomes of this research will contribute to the efforts to build a secure and resilient digital infrastructure that supports the entire knowledge economy.
Scholarship
This is an Earmarked scholarship project that aligns with a recently awarded Australian Government grant.
The scholarship includes:
- living stipend of $35,000 per annum tax free (2024 rate), indexed annually
- your tuition fees covered
- single overseas student health cover (OSHC).

- honours and awards
- employment history
A working knowledge of microeconomics, game theory, mechanism design or experimental methods would be of benefit to someone working on this project.

This project requires candidates to commence no later than Research Quarter 1, 2025. To allow time for your application to be processed, we recommend applying no later than 30 September, 2024 30 June, 2024.
