Project description

The project is focused on testing Becker's relational account of attention and eye movements (JEP-Gen, 2010) in multi-element displays. The experiments will involve testing the relational account against other, feature-specific accounts, using classical behavioural paradigms from Cognitive Psychology, eye tracking, EEG and fMRI.

Research environment

Successful applicants can expect full access to all necessary research resources, including the labs housing eye trackers and/or EEG systems, which are all at the School of Psychology. Successful applicants will be provided with a desktop computer and space in a shared office at or near the School of Psychology. UQ offers a vibrant intellectual environment and is regularly ranked highly in all global research / education rankings. Our PhD students regularly present their work at national and international conferences and workshops and are encouraged to engage in networking.

Scholarship

This project is supported by the Research project scholarship.

This scholarship includes:

  • living stipend of $35,000 per annum tax free (2024 rate), indexed annually
  • tuition fees covered.

Your application will be assessed on a competitive basis.

We take into account your:

  • previous academic record
  • publication record
  • honours and awards
  • employment history

A working knowledge of current theories of attention and especially the relational account would be of benefit to someone working on this project.

You will demonstrate academic achievement in the field/s of cognitive psychology and the current topics in attention research and the potential for scholastic success.

A background or knowledge of designing or programming experiments, collecting data and/or writing up the results is highly desirable.
