School Opportunity Scheme

We’re striving towards equitable access to education and breaking down barriers facing students aspiring to study at UQ.

The School Opportunity Scheme can boost your selection rank by 2 or 4 adjustments based on your school’s Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage (ICSEA) value. These adjustments aim to enhance educational opportunities for all students.

Who is eligible

If you're currently in Year 12 you’ll automatically receive adjustments if your school’s ICSEA value is 1,000 or less.

The ICSEA value can change each year. We use your school’s lowest value from the last 3 years.

Check your eligibility

  1. Go to the MySchool website.
  2. Search for the name of your school or suburb.
  3. Find your school in the results list, and click 'View School Profile'.
  4. Find the ‘Student background’ section of your school’s profile and view the School ICSEA value.
  5. For 2026 entry to UQ, check your school’s ICSEA value for 2022, 2023 and 2024. Take note of the value for each year.
  6. Identify the lowest value from these 3 years.

If your school’s lowest ICSEA value from these 3 years is:

  • 950 to 1,000 you’ll receive 2 adjustments
  • less than 950 you’ll receive 4 adjustments.

How to apply

These adjustments are automatic, so you don’t need to apply for them.

If you’re eligible, we’ll automatically boost your selection rank based on the school details included in your QTAC application.

You may also be eligible for the Rural Access Scheme and The Queensland Commitment Scholarship.

International students aren't eligible for the School Opportunity Scheme.

If you're studying your senior schooling in Australia, you may be eligible for other admission schemes.
