Submit your application
If you're interested in opportunities to study overseas as a UQ student, learn more about global experiences.
Ready to apply? Follow these steps.
Step 1: Create an account
Create an account in UQ applications. If you've registered before, you can log in using your existing email address and password.
If applying online isn't possible for you, contact our team at studyabroad@uq.edu.au.
Citizenship
If you hold dual citizenship, select the one you will use for your Australian visa application.
If your dual citizenship includes Australian or New Zealand citizenship:
- for citizenship status: select 'International student'
- for citizenship: select your other citizenship (not Australia or New Zealand).
Step 2: Start your application
Select 'Start an application'. Search for 'study abroad' or 'exchange' and select the relevant program.
If you’re unsure, read our advice on selecting your program.
Click 'Apply now'.
Step 3: Complete your application
Complete the application form and include any required documents. You can save your application and return to it later if needed.
In your application, you'll need to:
- select the courses you want to study
- upload a copy of your official university transcript
- upload a copy of your passport or national ID card
- provide proof of your English language proficiency (if required).
Upload documents as PDFs to reduce their file size.
Personal details
Make sure your name, gender and date of birth match your official government documentation.
(You can also provide a preferred name when you apply. If you're accepted to UQ you’ll be able to add or update your preferred name and gender later.)
Program of study
Select your preferred study option. Check the start date to ensure you select the correct intake semester for when you want to start at UQ.
Search for and select the courses you want to study.
Previous study
You only need to submit academic transcripts for non-UQ studies.
Transcripts should list:
- all of the courses you studied
- any degrees or diplomas you received and the date they were awarded.
If you have completed your studies and the transcript does not state your degree or diploma and the date it was awarded, you must also provide an award certificate or testamur.
If you have been:
- nominated by your home university, your documents don't need to be certified. We can verify them with your institution
- not nominated by your home university, you must provide a certified copy of each transcript. Transcripts can be certified by an approved UQ agent or other appropriate parties.
If your previous tertiary studies were in Australia or New Zealand, you may be able to share your transcripts online via My eQuals. Otherwise, upload documents as PDFs to reduce their file size.
Step 4: Submit your application
When you're satisfied your application is complete, submit it.
You’ll receive an email confirming your application has been submitted. Keep this email – you can reply to it if you have questions about your application.
Closing dates
Make sure you submit your application by the relevant closing date:
- Semester 1 (February–June) applications: 31 October of the previous year
- Semester 2 (July–November) applications: 31 March of the same year
There is some flexibility, so if the deadline has passed and you'd still like to submit an application, contact our team at studyabroad@uq.edu.au.
Your home university will have its own application dates for exchange students. They are responsible for nominating you and informing you of the application process.
However, the recommended deadlines for your application to UQ are:
- Semester 1 (February–June) applications: 30 September of the previous year
- Semester 2 (July–November) applications: 28 February of the same year
Step 5: Track or update your application
We will assess your application. We'll contact you if you need to provide any additional information.
After you've submitted your application, you can log in to UQ applications to:
- track the status of your application
- withdraw your application
- accept, decline or defer an offer
Course approvals
Some courses require approval from the relevant UQ faculty or school before you can enrol. If this applies to any of your course selections, we'll make the request on your behalf and let you know whether or not they are approved with your letter of offer.
