Review program commitments

Young Achievers depend on the support of their parents, guardians and school, so it's important everyone is aware of the time commitment and expectations you must meet if you are accepted into the program.

You must:

  • continue to meet the eligibility criteria for the program
  • attend the welcome event and residential camps
  • actively participate in scheduled mentoring
  • participate in the Community Venture Project.

Welcome event

You and your family will be invited to attend a welcome event in Term 4 with options in Brisbane, Toowoomba, and some regional locations close to YAP partner schools.

This allows you to meet current and past Young Achievers, mentors and UQ staff members who can tell you more about the program.

Residential camps

On-campus experiences are an important aid for establishing mentoring relationships, building educational aspirations, and delivering activities that foster social, personal and academic growth.

Held at a university residential college on UQ’s St Lucia campus (Brisbane), the camps are supervised by UQ staff and student mentors.

During the camp, Young Achievers are encouraged and supported to make new friends, explore university life and have fun.

Camps are held during school holidays, with regional and remote students travelling to and from campus the day before and after the camp dates. We provide all meals, accommodation, transport and program activities during the camps.

Check key dates to see if you are available.

Student mentoring

Mentorship is a crucial part of supporting and motivating Young Achievers.

You'll have mentors assigned to support you through monthly phone calls during the semester.

You can also connect with other students through a private Instagram group created for the program.

Community Venture Project

Each year, Young Achievers embark on a project designed to make a positive impact on their local community. You'll choose your own project, developing and showcasing it through a poster that highlights your impact, learnings and the skills you've gained.

Throughout this process, you'll receive ongoing support and guidance, starting with a comprehensive session at your first on-campus experience in Year 11.
