Inclusive Medical Education Guidelines

The UQ Medical School fosters a culture of inclusivity and seeks to provide equivalent opportunities to access an education in medicine. Enabling effective inclusion requires a collaborative effort by you and the Medical School.

Before you apply, read the Medical Deans Inclusive Medical Education Guidelines (PDF, 1.1MB) and report any potential barriers that may stop you from participating in the program by emailing the Academic Guidance staff (med.academicguidance@uq.edu.au).

How to apply

Before you apply, we recommend contacting the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit (ATSISU) to express your interest for entry in the provisional entry pathway.

To apply to start studying in 2025, you'll need to submit your QTAC application as well as your MD Admissions Pathway (Provisional) application form by 30 September 2024.

When you’re ready to apply, you’ll apply through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC).

  1. Use the following QTAC codes when submitting your application:
    • 721302 – Doctor of Medicine (MD) Provisional Entry for School-Leavers (Commonwealth Supported Non-bonded Medical Program)
    • 721402 – Doctor of Medicine (MD) Provisional Entry for School-Leavers (Commonwealth Supported Bonded Medical Program).
  2. On your QTAC application, you must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and list UQ as a preference.
  3. Complete and sign the admission pathway application form (PDF, 221.52 KB).
  4. Provide copies of the following documents:
    • Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status under the common seal of an incorporated community organisation. For more information contact the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit at atsisaltentry@uq.edu.au.
    • Personal resume (including 2 referees)
    • Academic transcripts or certificates from previous enrolments in education courses or programs, and any supporting documents relevant to your application.
  5. Submit a brief personal statement, no more than an A4 page. This statement should outline your motivations to study, and could include some background about yourself, what interests you about the program and what makes you a suitable candidate.
  6. Once you have all your documentation ready and your application is complete email it to ATSISU at atsisaltentry@uq.edu.au.

You don't need to apply for your preferred undergraduate degree yet. We'll contact you about this when you receive an offer.

What happens next

Selection for interviews

After the application closing date, ATSISU will convene a selection committee to shortlist eligible applicants. If you're shortlisted, you'll be invited to attend a semi-structured interview to discuss your application.

If eligible you'll then receive an email to let you know if you’ve been invited for a multiple mini-interview (MMI). MMIs will be scheduled for week beginning 18 November 2024.

Selection for offers

Applicants who meet the entry requirements are selected for an offer based on the recommendation from the ATSISU.

If you’re successful in receiving a place in the Doctor of Medicine program, UQ will send you a conditional offer in December, and you'll receive your official offer from QTAC in January of your commencement year.

If you receive an offer to study with us, we’ll contact you and ask you to nominate your preferred undergraduate degree.

You can find more information on admission requirements, interview and offer selection, and deferment in UQ’s Undergraduate, Doctor of Medicine, Non-Award and CSP Admissions Schedule 3.
