Submit your application
Ready to apply? You need to apply online directly to UQ.
We recommend applying well before the closing date – places in some programs fill up quickly.
Step 1: Contact the relevant school or faculty
Consult with the faculty and/or school about:
- any specific application requirements
- closing dates
- research projects
- potential honours supervisors.
Step 2: Create an account
Create an account in UQ Online Applications.
If you can't access UQ Online Applications, contact us.
Step 3: Complete your application
Complete all details on the application form and upload all required documents. You can save an incomplete form and return later.
You may need to provide a complete academic transcript and/or testamurs for any non-UQ studies. The transcript should list:
- all courses you studied
- any degrees or diplomas you were awarded.
Upload documents as PDFs to reduce their file size.
Step 4: Submit your application
When you're satisfied your application is complete, submit it.
Closing dates
Make sure you submit your application by the closing date:
- Semester 1: 31 January
- Semester 2: 30 June.
Some programs have different closing dates – these will be listed on the program page.
We may consider late applications, but this can't be guaranteed.
Step 5: Manage your application
After you've submitted your application, you can log in to My Applications to:
- track the status of your application
- upload documentation
- provide referee details
- withdraw your application
- accept, decline or defer an offer
- pay all or part of your fees
- ask a question using the messaging function.
Applications for some programs are assessed immediately. To change your preferences or update your details, use the messaging function.
You can complete your application yourself or apply through an approved UQ agent near you. Applicants from certain countries must apply through an agent – our online application system will let you know if you need to do this.
We can consider applications up to 2 years in advance, so we recommend applying early. You must leave enough time for UQ to process your application and issue an offer, and for you to organise your student visa.

Provide a certified copy of your transcript as soon as it is available. Transcripts can be certified at a Student Centre, by an approved UQ agent, or by other appropriate parties.
Don't send original documents. We're not able to return them.
If you're waiting to complete your studies
If you're waiting for a transcript or your current results, you can submit your application with a note stating when your transcript is likely to be available. Forward a certified copy of your transcript as soon as you receive it.
When you forward your transcript, you need to clearly:
- mark it with your UQ student number (if you know it), family name, first name, date of birth, and the UQ program you have applied for
- state that you have already submitted an application.

How we assess applications
We assess each application on a case-by-case basis. Our International Admissions team will review your qualification to check that it meets the requirements of the program you're interested in.
We also refer to the reputation or ranking of your institution and the Department of Education, Skills and Employment (DESE) Qualifications Recognition Service. This ensures your academic background meets Australian standards as well as the subject or discipline requirements of a UQ program.
All UQ qualifications are aligned to the Australian Qualifications Framework.
