Entry requirements (MD provisional entry)
As a provisional entry student you’ll complete your first bachelor's degree at UQ before you start the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program in the Greater Brisbane region.
You can apply for the Greater Brisbane provisional entry pathway if you’re:
- in your final year of high school (Queensland Year 12 or equivalent), and
- completing year 12 (and it's your first attempt).
You must apply for the MD during your final year of high school regardless of whether or not your results will be released during the same calendar year.
Entry requirements
To meet the minimum entry requirements, you'll need:
- an adjusted ATAR 95 (or equivalent)
- Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) English
- a competitive University Clinical Aptitude Test for Australia and New Zealand (UCAT ANZ) aggregate score from the year you apply
- to attend a multiple mini-interview (MMI) in the year you apply.
Meeting the minimum entry requirements doesn't guarantee admission.
Make sure you're assessed on your highest possible entry score by applying for any admission schemes you're eligible for.
Your first (bachelor's) degree
If you receive a provisional entry offer, you'll need to complete your first degree at UQ before you start the MD. You have some flexibility to choose which program you'd like to study as your first degree, as long as:
- you meet the entry requirements for that program
- it enables you to complete the required MD subject prerequisite courses.
If you're not sure what to choose for your first degree, we've created a list of recommended programs, grouped by what you're likely to study that program.
See recommended bachelor's degrees
During your bachelor’s degree you’ll need to do the following to be eligible to progress to the MD:
- achieve a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 5.0 (on a 7-point scale)
- complete the degree within the minimum time
- complete the required MD subject prerequisite courses.
UCAT ANZ entry scores
The minimum required UCAT ANZ aggregate score depends on the performance of all applicants and the available places.
For the 2024 intake, the lowest UCAT ANZ score for an invite to interview was:
- 2660 for Rural Access Scheme for Provisional Entry applicants
- 3030 for provisional Entry applicants not eligible for the Rural Access Scheme.
This score varies each year and can't be determined in advance. If you're competitive for the next stage, you'll be invited to a multiple mini-interview (MMI).
