Assumed knowledge for the Doctor of Medicine

The Doctor of Medicine (MD) program assumes commencing students have prior knowledge of cell and tissue biology and systems physiology.

This foundational knowledge provides a framework for understanding topics throughout the MD program, including:

  • human structure and function at the cellular, tissue and systems levels
  • the integration of physiological processes
  • the biological basis of health and disease.

Develop the assumed knowledge

If you intend to study your undergraduate degree at UQ, there are several recommended programs to prepare you for the MD. The programs listed below allow you to study Integrative Cell and Tissue Biology (BIOM2011) and Systems Physiology (BIOM2012), either as part of the program or as an elective course.

The recommended programs have been organised into 3 different categories. You can choose from these based on your interests.
