The Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) is a 1-year program where you'll learn how to plan and conduct a research project with a resultant manuscript written for publication in a journal. You'll have an opportunity to make a significant contribution to public health research and establish your skills as a researcher, as well as enhance your professional reputation.
Through your research, you'll push the boundaries of the discipline and develop your independence, self-reliance and skills in critical and analytical thinking, writing and problem-solving.
You'll work closely with internationally respected researchers and academics and learn how to identify, analyse and synthesise relevant scientific literature, along with gaining an understanding of the variety of research methods used in health research.
You'll graduate with a respected honours qualification, with developed knowledge and skills that will set you apart in the jobs market, prove your leadership material, and provide a pathway to future research or learning.
If you excel, you can further your research ambitions and enrol in a Master of Philosophy or PhD program, where you'll continue to develop your skills and make a significant contribution to knowledge.

Entry requirements
Prerequisites
- a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (see below), and
- have secured an honours project and supervisor approved by the Head of School
You must have a grade point average (GPA) of 5.0 on a 7-point scale in your previous qualification.
Relevant disciplines may include behavioural and social sciences, biomedical sciences, biostatistics, dentistry and oral health, environmental health, exercise and sport science, food science, health economics, health management, medicine and medical studies, nursing, nutrition, occupational health and safety, occupational therapy, paramedic science, pharmacy, physiotherapy, public health and health sciences, science, speech therapy, and veterinary sciences.

English language requirements
IELTS overall 6.5; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6. For other English Language Proficiency Tests and Scores approved for UQ
TOEFL iBT (including Paper Edition) - Overall 87, listening 19, reading 19, writing 21 and speaking 19.
PTE Academic - Overall Score of 64 and 60 in all sub bands.
BE - A minimum overall grade of 4 plus a minimum grade of C in all macro skills.
CES - Overall 176 and 169 in all sub bands.
OET is not accepted.

Student visas
International students who are accepted into full-time study in the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) are eligible to apply for an Australian student visa (subclass 500).

Domestic places in the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) are Commonwealth Supported. This means the cost of your education is shared between you and the Australian Government.
