Undergraduate student profile
A new group of undergraduate students starts at UQ each semester. These students have different backgrounds, including a range of life and study experiences.
The Whole of UQ student profile is a University-wide snapshot of our undergraduate student intake in the most recent Semester 1 period. Each undergraduate program also has its own student profile showing information about students who started the program in the most recent Semester 1 period.
These profiles can give you insight into the kinds of people you'll meet and study with in a certain program. Student profiles show your likely peer group in a program. We don't use them to make decisions about admission.

This data includes domestic students admitted in all offer rounds across all UQ campuses, as well as international students. Domestic students are split into four categories:
A. Higher education study
These are applicants whose highest level of study since leaving secondary education is a higher education course. They include applicants who:
- studied at a university or non-university higher education provider either recently or some time ago
- transferred from another institution or changed programs at UQ
- completed bridging or enabling studies.
B. Vocational Education and Training (VET)
These are applicants whose highest level of study since leaving secondary education is a VET course. This includes study at a TAFE or private VET providers, whether the qualification was completed or not.
VET students may have other qualifications, such as a Year 10 Certificate or Senior Certificate.
C. Work and life experience
These are applicants who left secondary education more than two years ago and haven't undertaken VET or higher education study since then.
'Experience' can include a range of factors, such as:
- paid work experience
- professional awards or service
- aptitude tests.
Applicants may have also completed non-formal programs that helped them prepare for tertiary study or were relevant to their program at UQ.
D. Recent secondary education
These are applicants whose admission is based mostly on secondary education completed in the current year or previous two years.
Secondary education may have been undertaken at a:
- school
- TAFE, or
- other VET or higher education provider.
For example, 'Recent secondary education' students who commenced in 2022 include those who completed secondary education in 2021, 2020 and 2019.
This group also includes students who may have undertaken or completed some VET or higher education study while still at school, and applicants whose secondary education was undertaken interstate or overseas.
