InspireU Discover

Take the first steps into your future with a full-day university experience for Indigenous Year 7 to 9 students on 29 September at Gatton or 2 October at St Lucia.

InspireU Discover is a full-day university experience for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander high school students who want to find out what university is all about. 

If you’re in Years 7 to 9, live in South East Queensland or the Darling Downs region and are considering your future study options, this is your chance to participate in a supportive, pressure-free environment and build meaningful connections.

What you can expect at our InspireU Discover day: 

  • tour UQ’s amazing St Lucia and/or Gatton campus and see where your future could unfold 
  • connect with current Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander university students who will share their journeys 
  • participate in hands-on cultural and academic experiences
  • meet other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students considering their future study options.

Key dates

Gatton experience day

  • When: Tuesday 29 September 2026
  • Where: UQ Gatton campus, Gatton

St Lucia experience day

  • When: Friday 2 October 2026
  • Where: UQ St Lucia campus, Brisbane

Registration dates

Registrations for both experience days:

  • open: Monday 13 July 2026
  • close: Sunday 23 August 2026 or when maximum capacity is reached.

Which experience day should I attend?

You’re welcome to register to attend either InspireU Discover experience days or both. 

Gatton vet students

Gatton

You might wish to register for the Gatton experience day if you’re interested in exploring studies in agriculture or animal sciences. UQ’s Gatton campus is situated in the beautiful Lockyer Valley (just an hour from Brisbane) and incorporates farmlands, research facilities, veterinary hospitals and even a dairy!

St Lucia

You might like to register for the St Lucia experience day if you’re interested in exploring studies in areas such as engineering, business, law, arts, science, health and more. UQ St Lucia campus in Brisbane is where the majority of our university programs are taught.

Cost

InspireU Discover includes all activities and meals at no cost to students who can attend UQ St Lucia or UQ Gatton campuses.

Transport

You need to organise your own transport to and from campus.

If you live further away or aren’t able to get yourself to UQ’s St Lucia or Gatton campuses this year, you may be interested in InspireU Explore or Extend in future. These programs offer week-long experiences, fully inclusive of travel.

How to register

Check your eligibility and follow the steps to register your attendance.

Step 1: Check your eligibility

You're eligible if you're:

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • currently in Years 7 to 9
  • available for a full day experience
  • able to organise your own transport to and from Gatton and/or St Lucia campus 
  • able to provide parent/guardian consent.

Step 2: Register to attend

When you complete the online registration form, you will be asked for details such as:

  • your dietary requirements and/or allergies
  • any medical conditions or accessibility requirements we should be aware of
  • your parent or guardian’s contact details
  • an additional emergency contact 
  • consent to photography and videography (you can choose to opt out).

Next steps

You’ll receive an email to confirm that you have successfully registered.

Continue to check your emails as further details will be shared about the Discover experience day before and after the event.
