From Data to Insight: Applied Introduction to Quantitative Analysis

Overview

This course will guide you through a practical, hands-on introduction to data handling and introductory statistical analysis for research and evaluation. You will work with real datasets through guided step-by-step activities that reflect real-world research practice.

Throughout the course you will learn by doing, through cleaning data, conducting basic statistical analyses and interpreting results in context.

The course introduces the use of statistical software for applied analysis, with flexibility to use software such as Stata or R (or Excel for basic analyses) based on your background or interests.

By the end of the course, you will have gained fundamental data analysis skills and completed hands-on exercises, equipping you with transferrable expertise for future projects.

Who should attend

Beginners with limited or no experience with quantitative data management, programming or statistical analysis.

This course is suitable for postgraduate students, researchers and evaluators in government, NGOs and private sectors.

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements or prerequisites.

You don't need any previous knowledge of quantitative data management, programming or statistical analysis.

What you'll learn

  • Learn how to prepare data for analysis using hands-on exercises.
  • Learn about different types of quantitative data through applied examples.
  • Understand how to choose the right statistical analysis to answer real-world research questions.
  • Practise fundamental statistical techniques using guided practical activities, with analyses such as t-tests, chi-square tests and correlations.
  • Apply learned techniques to draw insights from data.

Time commitment

This is an online course that will require roughly 10.5 hours to complete.

  • 3 half-days (9am to 12:30pm AEST)

There are no assessments for this short course.

Certification and accreditation

Students who successfully complete the course will receive a Certificate of Completion to verify their skills and achievements.
