High performance electrodes for CO2 electrochemical reduction

Project description

This project aims to develop high-performance electrodes for CO2 electrolyser to convert greenhouse gas CO2 into useful chemical products. Novel nanostructured catalysts will be developed for the electrodes in order to improve CO2 conversion and high-value product selectivity.

Research environment

The project is in the Australian Research Council's Centre of Excellence for Green Electrochemical Transformation of Carbon Dioxide and the UQ School of Chemical Engineering. The research will use world-class laboratory facilities, including electrochemical testing equipment in the School of Chemical Engineering and access to advanced characterisation (SEM, TEM, etc) facilities in UQ's Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis.

Scholarship

This project is supported by the Research project scholarship.

This scholarship includes:

  • living stipend of $36,400 per annum tax free (2025 rate), indexed annually
  • tuition fees covered.

A working knowledge of chemistry, phyiscs, and chemical engineering would be of benefit to someone working on this project.

You will demonstrate academic achievement in the field/s of chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or applied chemistry and the potential for scholastic success.

A background or knowledge of electrochemistry, nanomaterials, or catalysts is highly desirable.
