UQ science scholarships to help fund your studies

UQ students studying a maths, science, agriculture or environment program have the opportunity to apply for study-area-specific scholarships to support their academic journey.

Whether you’re excelling in your studies, facing financial hardship, and/or looking to gain valuable industry experience, there may be a UQ science scholarship that can help you on your way.

The UQ science scholarships listed below are available to current students only – meaning you’ll be able to apply for them once you’ve gotten into UQ (applications will open on 1 March 2026 and close on 31 March 2026).

Remember that the information about scholarships in this article is just a snapshot and is correct as of March 2025 – always check UQ’s scholarships website for the latest and most detailed information on our scholarship offerings, eligibility and rules.

Agriculture and veterinary scholarships

Undergraduate

Agriculture

  • The Childers & District Fruit & Vegetable Growers’ Association Scholarship – With a value of at least $4,500 annually, this scholarship supports domestic students in agriculture-related programs. It prioritises students from the Childers area majoring in crops studies, emphasising academic merit.
  • Costa Berries Scholarship – Offering $5,000, this scholarship is for agriculture students majoring in horticulture. It emphasises both academic merit and employability, and priority will be given to students whose home address is in Far North Queensland.
  • Ewing Scholarship – This $5,000 scholarship is available to students pursuing degrees in veterinary science or agricultural science, rewarding outstanding academic performance.
  • James and Everingham Bursary – Designed for students enrolled in agriculture or food technology programs, this bursary recognises both academic excellence and financial need. The value of the bursary may vary from year to year.

Veterinary

  • James Conway Langdon Scholarship – Targeting first-year veterinary science students, this scholarship supports those who have demonstrated academic excellence. Students with an interest in pursuing work with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, or the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) are encouraged to apply. The value of the scholarship may vary from year to year dependant on the number of recipients.
  • Maureen Stevenson Scholarship – Providing at least $4,500, this scholarship supports domestic veterinary students experiencing financial difficulties.
  • Miriam E. Wippell Undergraduate Scholarship – Aimed at first-year, full-time veterinary science students, this scholarship recognises academic excellence. There are up to 2 of these scholarships available to students who have not previously undertaken tertiary study. The value of the scholarship is $5,500 shared equally between the scholarship recipients.
  • Roslyn Griffiths Veterinary Science Bursary – Providing at least $2,000, this bursary assists veterinary science students facing financial hardship. Those from rural or regional areas, or who are first in their family to attend university are encouraged to apply.

Postgraduate

Agriculture

  • Peter Whiteman Memorial Bursary – This bursary offers at least $2,000 to a full-time postgraduate student specialising in agricultural science, specifically agronomy or crop science.

Veterinary

  • Roslyn Griffiths Veterinary Science Bursary – Providing at least $2,000, this bursary assists veterinary science students facing financial hardship. Those from rural or regional areas, or who are first in their family to attend university are encouraged to apply.

Geology, technology and science scholarships

Undergraduate

Geology

  • Lowth Geology Scholarship – Providing at least $4,500, this scholarship supports domestic earth science students facing financial hardship.

Science

  • Joan Cribb OAM Science Scholarship – Established by Alumni Friends, this scholarship provides at least $4,500 to assist science students requiring financial assistance, with a focus on supporting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.
  • UQ Science Leaders Scholarship – Offering $5,000, this scholarship is available to domestic undergraduate science students, with priority given to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need.
  • Faculty of Science Placement Enabling Grant – Providing up to $2,000 to undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students undertaking required Work Integrated Learning placements, this scholarship assists students with associated financial burdens.
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Scholarship – Supporting Indigenous UQ students facing financial hardship, this scholarship also promotes educational success and higher education representation. Scholarship value varies year to year.

Science and technology

  • Rowe Scientific Foundation PNG STEM Scholarship – This $5,000 scholarship is open to Papua New Guinean students (whose usual place of residence is PNG) pursuing studies in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) at either an undergraduate or postgraduate level.

Postgraduate

Science

  • Faculty of Science Placement Enabling Grant – Providing up to $2,000 to undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students undertaking required Work Integrated Learning placements, this scholarship assists students with associated financial burdens.
  • Edwin Munro Scholarship – Designed for first-year postgraduate students in science who have previously completed and excelled at a UQ undergraduate agricultural science program. The scholarship value is at least $2,000.

Science and technology

  • Rowe Scientific Foundation PNG STEM Scholarship – This $5,000 scholarship is open to Papua New Guinean students pursuing studies in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) at either an undergraduate or postgraduate level.

Quantum and physics scholarships

Undergraduate

Quantum and Physics

  • School of Mathematics and Physics Quantum and Advanced Technologies Honours Scholarship – This scholarship supports honours students focusing on quantum, photonics, superconductors, and micro-electromechanical systems, with an emphasis on encouraging applications from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and remote students. Available to multiple recipients.

Postgraduate

Quantum

  • Master of Quantum Technology Scholarship – This scholarship offers a 50 per cent reduction in tuition fees for students enrolled in the Master of Quantum Technology program, rewarding academic excellence.

UQ Gatton campus scholarships

Undergraduate

  • UQ Gatton Past Students Association Scholarship – Providing $5,000 per year for up to 3 years, this scholarship assists students studying at UQ’s Gatton campus who are facing financial hardship.

Each year, UQ Faculty of Science scholarships, generously funded by alumni and supporters, provide students with invaluable financial assistance, helping them focus on their studies and achieve their goals with reduced financial stress.
