Design starts with understanding people. In this major, you’ll explore how culture, values, beliefs and social practices shape design and innovation.
You'll use field research, case studies and ethnographic methods to investigate social, cultural and political issues. Topics may include migration, resource development and environmental conservation. Build practical research skills and learn how to design with empathy, context and respect for communities.
You’ll gain insight into different cultural contexts and learn practical skills for working respectfully with communities. You’ll have deep cross-cultural understandings, hands-on research experience, and the ability to design with empathy.
