Applying for the Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Honours)

If you're applying for the Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Honours), you'll need to sit an online situational judgement test called the Casper Test. The test is delivered by Acuity Insights.

The Casper Test is just one part of the application process — you still have to meet all the other entry requirements. Check the requirements on the Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Honours) program page.

About the Casper Test

We recognise that skills and attributes such as resilience, critical thinking and communication are essential for veterinarians, but are not always reflected in academic performance alone.

The Casper Test is used to select and identify applicants who are best suited to the rigours of veterinary science and the profession. It does this by evaluating your responses to a variety of scenarios.

You'll need access to a computer, internet connection and webcam to take the test. Using a tablet to take the test is not recommended.

There are no designated testing centres – you can complete the test anywhere that has a reliable internet connection. The registration process includes system checks and internet connection speed tests.

How the test is scored

Independent raters will score your responses to the scenarios to produce your Casper Test score. Each rater evaluates one scenario for multiple applicants.

The scores are calculated using the standard deviation, a statistical measure that shows how much your response varies from the average (mean) responses in the same test group.

Acuity Insights sends the Casper Test scores directly to UQ. You won't see the test score. The score isn't a measure of success or failure, but a way to position you within the group of applicants sitting the test on that date.

How to register

You must submit your QTAC application before you can register with Casper. You can't add the Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Honours) as a preference on your QTAC application after the last Casper Test for the year.
