Project description
The proposed PhD project will focus on the design, fabrication, and fundamental understanding of organic optoelectronic devices, with a particular emphasis on light-emitting diodes. The student will investigate key material and device properties that govern charge generation, separation, and transport, and how these properties influence overall device performance and stability. Special attention will be given to developing and applying advanced electrical characterisation techniques, including those recently pioneered by our group, to gain deeper insights into charge carrier dynamics in working devices. This project will contribute to advancing the understanding of charge transport mechanisms and optimising the performance of opto-electronic devices.
Research environment
The Centre for Organic Photonics & Electronics, which is embedded in The University of Queensland’s School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences, has state-of-the-art facilities for the synthesis, characterisation and testing of organic semiconducting materials. The successful applicant(s) will join a research program involving an interdisciplinary team that includes theorists, chemists, spectroscopists, and device physicists.
Scholarship
This is an Fellowship support scheme scholarship project that aligns with a recently awarded Australian Government grant.
The scholarship includes:
- living stipend of $36,400 per annum tax free (2025 rate), indexed annually
- your tuition fees covered
- single overseas student health cover (OSHC).

A working knowledge of physics, chemistry, or engineering would be of benefit to someone working on this project.
