Project summary

Project description

Approximately 1 in 3 Australians reside in regional and rural areas where significant health inequities exist. We propose a technology-enabled transformation of Australia’s skin cancer service model in regional and rural Australia to detect skin cancer earlier.

This PhD will involve developing a roadmap to melanoma screening in regional Australia incorporating advanced 3D imaging and artificial intelligence clinician support technologies. You will work with regional communities and consumers to identify how to best implement a melanoma screening program in regional Australia. The PhD can be in the fields of public health, clinical science, implementation science, epidemiology, or biostatistics.

Our model will upskill the regional health workforce, reduce time to treatment and deliver better health outcomes in regional Australians by using advanced technologies.

Research environment

You'll work closely an experienced researcher team that is based within the Australian Centre of Excellence in Medical Imaging and Diagnosis (ACEMID).

You'll be based in the Centre for Health Services Research, at the Princess Alexandra campus, within the Behavioural Sciences team. You'll also have access to the vast knowledge of the other HDR and postdoctoral researchers in the team, to support the student's research progress and success.
