Project description
The project aims to advance the design and fabrication of printable batteries, whose layers have highly mismatched mechanical properties. The project will use both computational modelling and experimental testing to deliver a set of design guidelines for a scalable, and cost-effective battery solution for future flexible devices.
Research environment
Dr Aditya Khanna has over ten years of experience in the stress and fracture analysis of multi-layered media and will lead the mathematical modelling scope of the project. Prof Ruth Knibbe, is an expert in electrochemical system and will lead the experimental characterization of screen-printed zinc ion batteries in the project. The supervisors have access to the necessary computational and experimental facilities to support the project.
Scholarship
This project is supported by the Research project scholarship.

Preferred educational background
Your application will be assessed on a competitive basis.
We take into account your:
- previous academic record
- publication record
- honours and awards
- employment history.
A working knowledge of scientific programming and finite element analysis and experience in mechanical property testing would be of benefit to someone working on this project.
You will demonstrate academic achievement in the field of mechanical engineering and the potential for scholastic success.
A background in mathematical or numerical modelling of structural problems involving multi-layered materials is highly desirable.
