Photonic quantum-accelerated machine learning with quantum dots

Project summary

Program
PhD
Location
St Lucia
Research area
Physical sciences

Project description

This project is part of the UQ node of the ARC Training Centre for Current and Emergent Quantum Technologies. One scholarship is available for this project.

In this project, we will develop photonic quantum-accelerated machine learning based on quantum dots realised by our partners at Université Paris-Saclay and Quandela.

Research environment

This project will be carried out at the Quantum Technology Laboratory at the St Lucia campus of The University of Queensland.

You will join a collaborative research group with strong expertise in photonic quantum technologies, working alongside postdoctoral researchers and other PhD students.

You will participate in regular group meetings, seminars, and journal discussion sessions. The research environment supports independent work while encouraging collaboration within the group and engagement with the broader quantum photonics community.

Scholarship

This project is supported by the Research project scholarship.

This scholarship includes:

  • living stipend of $37,500 per annum tax free (2026 rate), indexed annually
  • tuition fees covered
  • $10,000 top-up per annum for 3.5 years.

Preferred educational background

Your application will be assessed on a competitive basis.

We take into account your:

  • previous academic record
  • publication record
  • honours and awards
  • employment history.

A working knowledge of quantum optics and quantum information would be of benefit to someone working on this project.

You will demonstrate academic achievement in the field of physics and the potential for scholastic success.

A background or knowledge of experimental optics and quantum light sources is highly desirable.
