Project description

UQ's Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB) is launching this new PhD scholarship funded through distributions from the Simon Anders Axelsen Memorial Fund.  

This philanthropic scholarship will be awarded within three areas of research focus, as follows:
• Cancers including rhabdomyosarcoma 
• Alzheimers and dementia
• Research that will assist those suffering with pain, allowing them to end their lives pain free.

Multiple projects are available within these research areas.

Interested candidates need to submit their Expression of Interest directly to the relevant Principal Advisor. 
The IMB will perform an internal review and nominate the top candidate for scholarship consideration.

You will work within a world-class research environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities and collaborative networks across biomedical, clinical, and translational science disciplines.

Scholarship

This project is supported by the Research project scholarship.

This scholarship includes:

  • living stipend of $37,500 per annum tax free (2026 rate), indexed annually
  • tuition fees covered.

Supervisor

Preferred educational background

Your application will be assessed on a competitive basis.

We take into account your:

  • previous academic record
  • publication record
  • honours and awards
  • employment history.

You will demonstrate academic achievement and the potential for scholastic success.

A background or knowledge of biomedical science, pharmacology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related disciplines is highly desirable.
