With a strong focus on efficiency and sustainability, these engineers are involved in the physical and chemical processing of metals from crushing, extraction and purification through to product development.
In this major, you will study the modelling, design, economics of resource industry processes.

Now is an extremely exciting time to be a metallurgist. With declining mineral grade our ability to process increasingly complex ores, the equipment and integrated flowsheets that we are designing must be more efficient and innovative than ever.
My advice to those considering study at UQ is don’t be afraid to network and form friends in your initial weeks of university. Remember that you are all in the same position so why not go through the motions together.
The range of jobs that a chemical engineer can undertake interested me, as you are able to move around to different industries. You could be working in a chocolate factory, pharmaceuticals, or in biorefineries around the world.
