Project description
This project aims to revisit the fundamental processes governing the transition to flashover in compartment fires.
It will apply modern measurement techniques to generate new insights into the heat and mass transfer phenomena that drive flashover in contemporary built environments.
Research environment
You will join the UQ Fire Research Group, which is a world leading team in fire safety research.
This group is comprised of 10+ PhD students and eight staff members who meet regularly as a team to discuss a range of ongoing large-scale projects.
The UQ fire team is engaged in multiple national research projects, providing students the opportunity to engage in a wide range of research activities. UQ also features a state-of-the-art fire lab, allowing students to explore a wide array of fire phenomena.
Scholarship
This project is supported by the Research project scholarship.

Preferred educational background
Your application will be assessed on a competitive basis.
We take into account your:
- previous academic record
- publication record
- honours and awards
- employment history.
A working knowledge of fire dynamics and fire laboratory experience would be of benefit to someone working on this project.
You will demonstrate academic achievement in the fields of engineering, physics, and experimental methods and the potential for scholastic success.
A background or knowledge of compartment fire dynamics and experimental methods is highly desirable.
