Uncovering the link between pregnancy and methane emissions in grazing cattle via artificial intelligence

Project description

This project will improve understanding of how pregnancy influences enteric methane
production, grazing behaviour, and metabolic changes in ruminants.

This research will contribute to development of more accurate methane accounting methods for breeding herds.

Research environment

This project will use UQ and CSIRO computation facilities, as it is mostly a data analysis project.

The data were collected during the LESTR project; you may have opportunities to collect further data relevant to this iPhD, pending future funding.

Across QAAFI and SCMB, you will have access to all you need in terms of research infrastructure, complemented by CSIRO through this collaboration.

Scholarship

This project is supported by the Research project scholarship.

This scholarship includes:

  • living stipend of $39,220 per annum tax free (2026 rate), indexed annually
  • tuition fees covered.

Supervisor

Preferred educational background

We take into account your:

  • previous academic record
  • publication record
  • honours and awards
  • employment history.

A working knowledge of data analysis, statistical methods, and computational tools (R, Python, or similar) would be of benefit to someone working on this project.

You will demonstrate academic achievement in the fields of animal science, agricultural science, or a related discipline and the potential for scholastic success.

A background or knowledge of data management, reproducible research practices, and on-farm technologies (sensors, GPS) is highly desirable.
