Bachelor of Communication (Honours)
Overview
Develop advanced skills and knowledge in communication theory, research, policy and practice in this interdisciplinary program.
This Honours program is an extra year of study which follows on from the Bachelor of Communication. It is designed to prepare you for a lifetime of creative and critical use of media and communication.
The program is based on a combination of coursework and research in a relevant area of communication. The aim of the program is to round off the learning experiences you gained at an undergraduate level by providing you with opportunities for research and leadership under close supervision. You will research a communication-related issue in-depth and present your findings in the form of a thesis.
The knowledge and skills you will develop are widely valued and can be used in a variety of careers that require strong communication abilities.

Entry requirements
Prerequisites
- Bachelor of Communication from the University (or equivalent); and
- have gained a grade point average (GPA) of 5.5 on a 7-point scale (or higher set by the Head of School for specific fields of study) from an approved combination of courses comprising:
- all Level 2 and Level 3 BCommun Core Courses*; and
- 6 units of Level 2 and Level 3 courses from the chosen BCommun Major**; or
- satisfy the executive dean that the person is qualified to undertake the program based on the person's academic records and subject to completion of additional work, if set.
- The head of school may limit places depending on supervisor availability.
- Once eligibility is established, entry is via a competitive selection process based on GPA.

IELTS overall 6.5; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6. For other English Language Proficiency Tests and Scores approved for UQ
TOEFL IBT - Overall 87, listening 19, reading 19, writing 21 and speaking 19.
TOEFL PB - Overall 570, listening 54, reading 54, writing 59/5.
Pearsons - Overall Score of 64 and 60 in all sub bands.
BE - A minimum overall grade of 4 plus a minimum grade of C in all macro skills.
CES - Overall 176 and 169 in all sub bands.
OET is not accepted.

Student visas
International students who are accepted into full-time study in the Bachelor of Communication (Honours) are eligible to apply for an Australian student visa (subclass 500).
There are a number of requirements you must satisfy before a visa is granted, including the genuine temporary entrant (GTE) requirement.

HECS-HELP
Domestic places in the Bachelor of Communication (Honours) are Commonwealth Supported. This means the cost of your education is shared between you and the Australian Government.
