Bachelor of Medical Science / Doctor of Medicine
Overview
Gain a world-class medical education and graduate at least 1 year earlier than traditional postgraduate medicine pathways.
The Bachelor of Medical Science/Doctor of Medicine is a vertical dual degree which enables you to complete 2 years of tailored pre-medicine study before progressing directly into the 4-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program.
The pre-medicine component aligns with the MD graduate attributes and the 6 design themes underpinning the MD curriculum. It integrates traditional science and biomedical science as well as courses in public health, humanities and computer science/information technology.
The pre-medicine component comprises 32 units delivered over 4 semesters (2 years).
- Year 1 comprises 8 core courses providing essential foundational knowledge.
- Year 2 includes 5 core courses and 3 electives.
You will then transition to the 4-year MD curriculum, where you’ll begin by learning fundamental medical concepts before entering clinical practice settings from year 2. In your third and fourth years you will take on clinical responsibilities and undertake a term of study dedicated to preparing for internship/residency.
