Placements and work experience

WIL in Years 1¿3 is the same as BPharm(Hons). In Years 4 and 5, students complete year-long 8-unit placement courses (PHRM8071 and PHRM8072), each involving 2 days/week on placement for 12 weeks per semester (14 weeks/year). At 7.5 hours/day, this equals 180 hours/semester and 360 hours/year¿matching the six-week (4 days/week) placements in PHRM4071/4072. Each semester is divided into 3 x 4-week blocks: students spend 2 blocks in a bonded site and 1 block in an alternative site. This structure provides a minimum of 720 WIL hours across Y4¿Y5, including 480 hours in a bonded site and 240 hours in an alternative setting. Bonded sites mimic the intern¿preceptor relationship; students arrange these in Y3 for Y4¿Y5 and spend 2/3 of their placement time there. Alternative placements offer experience in different settings (e.g. hospital vs. community). Once both are covered, students may explore other areas such as rural/remote, aged care, or GP practice.
