Studying a curriculum purpose-built for contemporary pharmacy practice, you’ll graduate with the technical knowledge, thinking and communication skills necessary to succeed as a patient-centred medicines expert, adaptable and ready to face new healthcare challenges as they arise.
You'll learn in dedicated laboratories, mock dispensaries and simulated pharmacies at UQ’s state-of-the-art biomedical science centre, designed specifically for the teaching of pharmacy-related subjects and research.
With 3 integrated streams of study, you'll develop knowledge and skills in pharmacy practice and medicines management; consultation and dispensing skills; pharmaceutical sciences; and social pharmacy and the health system. Our integrated approach means you’ll gain a strong understanding of how theory is applied to real cases across a wide range of settings.
Throughout your degree, you’ll learn how to provide safe and effective person-centred care to improve health through the use of medicines. And our interprofessional education program ensures you’ll know how to work as a valued member of a multi-disciplinary primary healthcare team once you graduate, work-ready, in a profession with one of the highest graduate employment rates in Australia.

Placements and work experience
You will undertake over 600 hours of supervised clinical practice in a range of clinical settings that includes hospital and community pharmacies. The School has partnerships with over 500 pharmacies throughout rural and metropolitan Australia and overseas.
During your placements, you will have the opportunity to apply your theoretical knowledge acquired through coursework and research to practice and develop your clinical skills in real life settings.
You will undertake a variety of sessional practical experiences from year one before commencing two 6-week block placements in year four.
Clinical placements may be outside of the Brisbane metropolitan area where you will be required to fund your travel, accommodation and daily living expenses.

Next steps after graduation
This program has been granted accreditation by the Australian Pharmacy Council and is approved by the Pharmacy Board of Australia as a qualification leading to registration as a pharmacist in Australia.
Once you complete the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours), you'll need to meet the Pharmacy Board of Australia registration standards to be eligible to apply for pharmacist registration in Australia. These include completing a pre-registration year as an intern pharmacist and an intern training program.

BE - A minimum overall grade of 4 plus a minimum grade of C in all macro skills.
CES - Overall 176 and 169 in all sub bands.
